As with most things, there is a beginning

Earlier today Makita spoke to the people on her team she could find, and left notes with Bar for those she couldn't. Today is the day. It's time to go back.

While she's spoken to her team about what to expect, at least to some degree, no one's gotten a full briefing yet. She's pushed some tables out of the way to form a sort of open space in one corner of the bar, and as people begin to arrive she's starting to unpack the five military-style duffel bags at her feet, laying the contents out on the tables nearby. Grenades, mines, boxes of ammo, and a few guns are slowly spread out like a deadly little buffet.

"I know most of you have your own gear, and that's fine," Makita waves a hand to take in the stacks of equipment on the nearby tables. "But if anyone wants to grab anything, feel free. It's there to be used. If there's something you're looking for, let me know."

She turns to Krauser, "I've got something for you," she nods to one of the tables, "I think you'll like it."

"OK, someone tell me how to work this tech?" Mel asks the group in general. She's keeping her gun and scythe, of course, but has set her sight on grenades, which she's packing into the pouches on her belt.

Makita's grin isn't happy so much as vicious. "Red Fleet fragmentation grenades. Simple." She picks one up to illustrate, "Safety pin, actuating lever. The lever stays locked as long as the pin is in. Once you pull the pin, if you let go of the lever you have three seconds before it explodes. If you've taken the pin out... well, don't drop the grenade."

"Three seconds, huh?"

The ones at home had a five second fuse; Mary Anne makes a mental note so she doesn't end up losing a hand.

She selects a few grenades, then joins in the weapons browsing. "What about these?" she asks, holding up a mine.

The Reds don't really believe in safety margins.

"Directional mines, remote operated. You set them up with this end toward your target zone," unlike claymores these don't have a useful "THIS END TOWARD ENEMY" label. "When you pull the firing cable," she points it out, "you get detonation. You can use the cable as a trip wire too."

Makita likes doing that.

Trip wires in a jungle were interesting; in a blizzard should be a whole other level.

"Fun," she says, grinning, and tucks two into her bag.

Goldy has a veritable cornucopia of munitions and equipment already stored about her person and in her bag. She has her two pistols, a selection of grenades and other pocket-sized explosive devices, a hunting knife, a laser range finder, night vision/thermal imaging goggles, and several other neat gadgets that were left over from her trip to Japan with Miho and Alanna last summer.

Regardless, she adds a few of Makita's short fuse fragmentation grenades to her arsenal, and, after some deliberation, another handgun and some clips for it.

"Yeah?" She has his attention. Krauser's carrying his bow, his arrows, flash grenades, a strange-looking gun, a plain-looking box, and a knife. This is about as much as he usually packs. He's something of a minimalist.

There actually are a few concessions to the whole heading into Siberian climes thing, but not many; a giant friggin' parasite living in your chest cavity kind of keeps your body temperature from dropping all that much.

Not that it's fun when the bug starts shivering.

Makita leads the way over to one of the tables which is entirely taken up with a backpack and and attached gun of some sort. "This is a hailer. It's a protokol driven chaingun with a sustained rate of fire of approximately 10,000 round per minute." It's also about the same size as Makita herself. "I think it's at about 20% ammo supply, so you've only got about five minutes of sustained fire, but..." She shrugs, five minutes with a hailer can reduce a city block to rubble.

"The problem with it is that it's bulky. But you're big, and stronger than most people. I thought you could handle it. You know... if you want it.

"Pretty," says Krauser, meaning it, "but not usually my style." He prefers to move. "I can carry it back for you, in case we end up needing it." It's only fair, since he isn't even sure how Makita got it here.

Mel might just have been listening in.

"Want me to take it?"

What? She may be about a third of his size, but she's obviously the muscle.

Makita squints doubtfully. "If you want it..." She knows Mel's plenty strong, but... it's bulky and massive and not really what she usually thinks of as "Mel's style".

"We don't need it, I just thought Krauser might like it."

"OK," Mel says with a shrug, and looks to Krauser. She's better off being light anyway.

It would work as a piece of moveable cover for Mel! Maybe not camoflage, but cover.

"If we don't, we don't."

Sorceresses and guardsmen on one hand, and a collection of stabby types drawn from the end of the universe on the other.

Yeah. Heavy cannons are just going to slow them down.

Goldy gives the Hailer a longing look. It's like... the ultimate rail gun!

There's no way she can carry it, and she doubts she could wield it properly even if there was a tripod or other kind of barrel support involved. Nevertheless, she's still desirous of a weapon that can cause that much destruction, and she lets out a wistful sigh.

Mih'os pretty content with her own weapons. Knives, swords, shuriken - pistol. The last is a concession to the fact that she thinks she might actually need it, which is rare coming from her - and might let some of the others realise how dangerous she thinks this could be. Goldy and Mary-Anne, at least, know that she doesn't really do guns.
