Miho does undercover - but it doesn't take her any longer to cross ground unobserved than it would if she went in a straight line, really. Besides, she figures that a huge crater with a spire in the middle of it isn't exactly inconspicuous. It's not long before she catches sight of Mel in the air, takes an educated guess as to her destination, and trots off to join the rest of the group.
