A time to remember

The air is crisp without being cold, the sun is bright without being hot, and the grass is greener than it ever was back home. But somehow... somehow this seems like the perfect place to remember papa. The perfect place to love his memory and let it go.

She looks around her. Friends. Family, in a way. She has lost much, but she has gained much.

And she is not alone.

Rapunzel stands by the tree they've planted in honor of Makita's father, remembering her own losses with a sort of distant ache that only time can dull. She hopes that Makita's grief will lose it's sharper edges soon, and be able to remember him without the stabbing pain in her heart that she knows all too well.

Makita is, even at this time and place, aware of her surroundings. She glances up and over at Rapunzel with wide eyes.

Rapunzel walks over and wordlessly gives the girl a hug. It's not much, but she knows that nothing she does or says will make things any easier.

The shift which has Makita leaning into that hug is almost imperceptible, but it's there.

"I know it seems hard to believe now," she murmurs quietly, "but it won't always hurt so much."

Makita doesn't have any words. She probably won't for any of this. She doesn't even nod. But her shoulders seem to lose a bit of their tension.
