The universe is sometimes capricious
Aug. 6th, 2007 05:48 amMakita leads her team through the door and there is an audible click as the latch catches. Then something odd happens: the door swings open again and there is a pull and then the door stands closed once more.
Four people find themselves in an apartment building. The wind howls in through the window, and judging by the snow and debris scattered across the floor the glass holding the elements at bay shattered months ago. It's clear that no one has lived in this room in quite a while, but it appears that has at least been here recently.
In one corner, on top of the bed where it won't get wet from melting snow, there sits a neatly ordered stack of equipment. Rifles, pistols, grenades, boxes of ammunition, an unopened case of ration bars, boots and heavy winter coats in various sizes and styles, and stylized fur hats with gleaming red enameled stars in the center.
A look out the window would reveal six figures moving quickly through the snow.
Welcome to Bahamut.

She eyes Knox critically, "You good to walk? It's about six blocks to where we came in. It's the nearest place I know of that might have a door." And with luck that door will still be there.

Date: 2007-09-19 05:33 am (UTC)She wasn't sure why it was necessary for them to come if this was all that it was, but she knew, knew because of Johnny, that the smallest ripples changed things.
The shot might have hit someone else, or someone might have died, or things could have changed and gone entirely a different way. She could be grateful it was this small.
And just squeezed Alex's hand lightly as they walked, offering him a nervous small smile.

She can accept that, or not.
"Now. Do we have to wait for the others, or will they meet us where the door's supposed to be?"
Thank God that the door to Milliways couldn't just be destroyed, like the portals from the homelands to the mundane world.
