The universe is sometimes capricious
Aug. 6th, 2007 05:48 amMakita leads her team through the door and there is an audible click as the latch catches. Then something odd happens: the door swings open again and there is a pull and then the door stands closed once more.
Four people find themselves in an apartment building. The wind howls in through the window, and judging by the snow and debris scattered across the floor the glass holding the elements at bay shattered months ago. It's clear that no one has lived in this room in quite a while, but it appears that has at least been here recently.
In one corner, on top of the bed where it won't get wet from melting snow, there sits a neatly ordered stack of equipment. Rifles, pistols, grenades, boxes of ammunition, an unopened case of ration bars, boots and heavy winter coats in various sizes and styles, and stylized fur hats with gleaming red enameled stars in the center.
A look out the window would reveal six figures moving quickly through the snow.
Welcome to Bahamut.

Knox? He looks scared.

Date: 2007-08-06 04:00 pm (UTC)She sees the figures below, and is torn, but doesn't make a move to chase after them. Her main concern is here, now.
Taking a deep breath, she visibly calms herself, and turns to Alex.
"It's freezing here. Let's find Allie something warm. Caitlin? Are you all right?"
She's surprised she remembers the girl's name--she only met her the once, last Christmas.

Date: 2007-08-06 10:10 pm (UTC)"Yeah. We can't stay here. Wherever here is." He starts to look through the piles of clothes, not expecitng to find anything that fits anyone. He puts on a ratty old skimask that was clearly let behind in favor of the hats. "Allie, think your powers can give us a clue of where Kita is?" He now tries to find a map.

Date: 2007-08-06 11:35 pm (UTC)Allie had raised a hand and was pointing out the broken window, toward the small group of people fleeing into the town trying their best to not be out in the open.
"She's right there."

Date: 2007-08-07 12:40 am (UTC)She looks to Alex for back up on this, not sure what is going through his head. The figures below are getting farther away.
"One of these doors brought us here, so one of them must lead back to the bar, right?"
She is not panicking.

Date: 2007-08-07 08:20 am (UTC)He looks at Rapunzel, trying to ask if she's okay without using words, not wanting to get anyone else worried. Since he can tell it's tense. Strangely, the Gothamite is almost calm.

Date: 2007-08-07 02:41 pm (UTC)Drudging out a hat and jacket she got herself covered to the sounds of turns knobs and the frantic close-open, close-open sound of winter stiff hinges and warped doors. She settled on to the bed, without a second look at the piles of weapons around her, and started tying on a pair of tiny boots.
"There must have been a reason we were brought here, with all of this. Maybe it was something Bar knew that Makita hadn't planned for?"

Date: 2007-08-07 05:13 pm (UTC)"Maybe," Alex says. "But first we look for a door home. First we try." But the look on his face says he's not expecting to find that door.
Alex and Rapunzel look at each other, even as they both put on rather heavy coats. Neither wants to think what Allie is suggesting. But both know that the Bar sometimes acts with a mind of its own.
"Maybe," Alex says. "But first we look for a door home. First we try." But the look on his face says he's not expecting to find that door.
[ooc: invoking godding rights for Rapunzel so we can keep moving.]

Date: 2007-08-08 03:22 pm (UTC)She doesn't like this. She hadn't been planning to go, so she isn't prepared at all.
"Do any of us know how any of these weapons work? I'm not going to go out there without some way to defend ourselves, but I don't want us blown up in the process."

Date: 2007-08-08 08:46 pm (UTC)There was some apprehension in her tone as she looked to the weapons pile and then back to the Rapunzel. It was a plaintive comment and admission, as she stepped a little nearer.
"There was another team. Someone she was going against."
Allie said it quietly, like it was only a half formed thought.

Date: 2007-08-08 11:51 pm (UTC)"There was a group, including magic users--but I don't know what her plan of action against them was."
She begins shoving things in her pockets: a handgun and bullets, a couple of grenades (each in separate pockets), ration bars, and a large, wicked looking knife in a holster? Scabbard? She didn't know what it was called, but it would keep the blade covered until she needed it .
She digs out a bag of what looks like medical or first aid supplies, and holds it out to Allie to wear like a back pack, since it is lightest. Hopefully the enemy would be reluctant to open fire on a small child, not to mention one wearing a med kit.
"I think it would be best to stay close to the buildings. The snow might be drifted deeper against them in areas, but they offer a better chance of cover, and maybe we can use them to get up higher, to look out over the city, too."

Date: 2007-08-09 12:55 pm (UTC)"Aha!" He spots it on the floor. His coat! His bulletproof coat! "Bar must have tossed it in with us. Thank god for rainy days in Gotham!" He quickly changes coats and resumes stuffing the pockets. "It's bulletproof, Cait. A gift from Rachel Grey." He also takes a knife, but isn't sure what to do with it.
"OK...Raps is right about the buildings. Cait, I think you should take the lead. But we stay very close. And Allie, I tihnk you oughta to walk between me and Raps." He's not really trying to take charge, but he wants to do something, and wonders if he really can.

Date: 2007-08-09 03:56 pm (UTC)"Bulletproof is good. I don't die easily, so unless I get hit in the head with something, I should survive, if not heal rapidly."
It really goes against her better judgement to do it, but she finds a small knife in a box, and tucks it into the pack on Allie's back. She doesn't expect her to use it as a weapon, but it might come in handy.
"If we get separated?"
